Fulfil the Demands of Broiler Chicken Farmers in the Kongu Region!

– Statement by Vaiko

Broiler chicken farmers in Tamil Nadu have been continuously demanding that their long-pending grievances be addressed, including the payment of ₹20 as rearing charges per kilogram and the government’s initiative to convene a tripartite meeting to arrive at a fair solution.

At a time when the prices of input materials such as coconut husk bedding and other essentials have sharply increased, poultry companies are failing to provide fair remuneration to broiler chicken farmers. Currently, farmers are paid only ₹6.50 per kilogram as the minimum rearing charge.

Moreover, this amount has not been revised for the past ten years.

Given the steep rise in the cost of raw materials, the rearing charge must be increased to ₹20 per kilogram. To protect farmers and workers, the government should establish a welfare board. Poultry farms should be provided with insurance coverage, free electricity, and subsidies through banks. In addition, the government must conduct annual tripartite meetings to address and resolve issues faced by the sector.

In districts such as Erode, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore, broiler chicken farming serves as a vital source of livelihood for thousands of farmers.

Therefore, I strongly urge the Tamil Nadu Government to come forward and fulfil the demands of broiler chicken farmers during today’s tripartite talks.
